Quarterly Newsletter
April 2011

Grand Knights Report – Greetings and welcome to our quarterly newsletter.  With the cost of postage increasing the council has decided to change our newsletter from a monthly mail out to a quarterly email with copies being placed at the church and parish center for those who do not have email.  If you have an email address and we do not have it on file let us know and we will add you to our list.

Last quarter you received a letter explaining the Room at the Inn project being conducted by the Knights of Columbus in NC.  I want to thank everyone who made a donation in our council’s name, if you did not please consider making a donation.  You can get detail information at http://kofcnc.org/10_11Files/RATI.htm

SK Roger Shepard has assumed the duties of Council LAMB Director. I am still looking for a Council Director.  If you are interested please call me. I am also looking for an extra Finical Secretary for the 1st Degree Team.

The Program Directors have a lot planned for this coming year and need your help in making this our best year ever. We may not have seen you in a while and a lot of things have happened in that time. I would ask you to make time to come to one of our future business meetings and bring your family and join us at a monthly social. At some point in time you were an active member why not come back and join our team.

If you have not visited our council web site you should.  We keep it up-to-date and have a calendar of events to keep you informed.  www.kofc6700.com.  I have also posted the 2010-2011 Annual Schedule.

Remember the Rosary on the 1st and 3rd Saturday before the 5 PM mass. It is a Knights function so come and join us.

LAMB – Our new LAMB Director is working on the 2011 schedule. If you are interested in serving as a Store Captain please let SK Roger Shepard know.  Our first Lamb weekend is scheduled for May.  You should be receiving a call to help man the stores soon.

Church Committee Report – Our council donated to $4,000.00 to St. Michael’s to build a media center in the parish center, a gift that will server the entire parish.  Tim Mueller is leading the construction team and the project is well underway and planned to be completed before Easter weekend. We continue to lead the Rosary 1st & 3rd Saturdays.  The parish is also saying the rosary before the other masses so if you are interested contact Deacon Art.

Council Committee Report – We are having fish fries on the Friday’s during lent, except for Good Friday.  The sales will run from 11 AM to 6:30 PM.  Price is $7.50 a plate and if you order 10 or more we will sell them for $7.00 and deliver.  We have purchased our own cookers and are preparing the fish and fixing’s ourselves.  We are looking for volunteers to help us with this event.  It will run for six Fridays.  If you have not taken the time to join us you have really missed some good food.

Community Committee Report – We assisted our Hispanic parishioners by preparing lunch for their retreat held on Saturday March 26, 2011.  They had a great turn out and we have a good time cooking the chicken.  Thanks to Charlie Dow for getting all the food and fixing’s.

Family Committee Report  Nothing to report this month.

Youth Committee Report – We held the annual council and district Free Throw contest in February and we will be taking the district winners to the State Free Throw contest in April.  Thanks to Gary Elkin and all the others who helped put on this event.

Membership Committee – We held a membership blitz the second weekend in March, but we have not received any applications.  If you know someone who would make a good member of our council please try and recruit them.  Our next 1st degree will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at the parish center.  We held a 1st scheduled for April 4, 2011 has been counseled.

Pro-life - Pro-life Chairman Tom Thornburg has work hard over the last several months to find an ultra-sound machine in good condition and we have purchased it for The Crisis Pregnancy Center and we hope to get it delivered in April. Also Deacon Art Kingsley and his wife were our representatives to the National March for Life held in Washington, DC in January.
