Quarterly Newsletter
January 2011

Grand Knights Report – Greetings and welcome to our quarterly newsletter.  With the cost of postage increasing the council has decided to change our newsletter from a monthly mail out to a quarterly email with copies being placed at the church and parish center for those who do not have email.  If you have an email address and we do not have it on file let us know and we will add you to our list.

Last quarter you received a letter explaining the Room at the Inn project being conducted by the Knights of Columbus in NC.  I want to thank everyone who made a donation in our council’s name, if you did not please consider making a donation.  You can get detail information at http://kofcnc.org/10_11Files/RATI.htm

SK Roger Shepard has assumed the duties of Council LAMB Director. I am still looking for a Council Director.  If you are interested please call me. I am also looking for an extra Finical Secretary for the 1st Degree Team.

The Program Directors have a lot planned for this coming year and need your help in making this our best year ever. We may not have seen you in a while and a lot of things have happened in that time. I would ask you to make time to come to one of our future business meetings and bring your family and join us at a monthly social. At some point in time you were an active member why not come back and join our team.

If you have not visited our council web site you should.  We keep it up-to-date and have a calendar of events to keep you informed.  www.kofc6700.com.  I have also posted the 2010-2011 Annual Schedule.

Remember the Rosary on the 1st and 3rd Saturday before the 5 PM mass. It is a Knights function so come and join us.

LAMB – Our new LAMB Director is working on the 2011 schedule. If you are interested in serving as a Store Captain please let SK Roger Shepard know.

Church Committee Report – We continue to lead the Rosary 1st & 3rd Saturdays.  The parish is also saying the rosary before the other masses so if you are interested contact Deacon Art.

Council Committee Report – We have scheduled another dance at the gym to be held on January 22, 2011.  It will be open to all, NO BEER sales for this even. Bring your family and come out and have a good time.  We had another successful Annual Golf Tournament thanks to SK Gary Elkin. If you missed the event this year plan on playing next year.  We sold over 80 Boston Butts this year.  The council voted to hold fish fries on the Friday’s during lent.  The sales will run from 11 AM to 6:30 PM.  We are going to purchase our own cookers and prepare the fish and fixing’s ourselves.  We are looking for volunteers to help us with this event.  It will run for six Fridays.

Community Committee Report – We had the annual Christmas hayride again this year and it was another big success.  I would like to send a very special thanks to all those who volunteered to help put on this event.

Family Committee Report – Planning a spaghetti dinner to raise money for our Pro-Life activities to be held on Friday January 21, 2011.  We will be conducting a Pro-Life poster contest for the young folks so plan on bringing the whole family and joining us. If you are interested in helping contact Tom Riley or Brian Gawronski.

Youth Committee Report –State Soccer Challenge (west) was held on Saturday November 6, 2010 at Martha Rivers Park.  We had sixteen shooters from the western section of the state compete in the competition.  State Secretary Greg Kent and State Advocate Colin Jorch, Jr attended the event.  A special thanks to event Chairman Gary Elkin and all the volunteers who made this a big success.

Membership Committee – Our next 1st degree will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at the parish center.  We held a 1st and 2nd degree on Saturday December 4, 2010 at Christ the King church in Kings Mountain at which we had 8 make their 1st degree and 11 make their second degree.  And on Saturday December 11, 2011 we had six from our council make their 3rd degree.

Pro-life - This is new this year.  Supreme has upgraded Pro-life from Chairman to a Director position and Tom Thornburg has accepted the duties of Pro-Life Chairman for our council. Again this year we will sponsor representatives to the National March for Life held in Washington, DC in January.  Father Arnsparger and Deacon Art Kingsley have agreed to represent our council at this event.
