St. Michael the Archangel
Vol. II, Issue XI  November,    2009

Editors Note:

Thank you to all the bus drivers who drove this time at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
We did it again and had fun in the process.

Many of the same men came out this year as in the past. It would be nice to see some new faces.  We worked a total of 291 ¼ hours.

That should make approximately $1,864 for the council.

New Members we need your e-mail addresses

Grand Knight Report

Greetings, beginning in January our council newsletter is going change to a quarterly newsletter and the first edition will not be out until March 2010.  We are looking for a new editor to assume the duties.  If you are interested contact me as soon as possible. You can visit our website at www.kofc6700.com which I will update each month with the latest information.

We have completed our first LAMB weekend and the Cotton Ginning Days event at Biggerstaff Park and the weather again was a real issue. We are now working on the schedule for our second weekend which will be November 6 – 8, 2009.  I want to thank all those who have participated in LAMB so far and hope you will help us in November.  Charity being the first of our order I would hope everyone would share in our commitment.  After all it is “OUR” commitment.

Our November social promises more entertainment plus we are going to have a ‘Best Desert” contest with a $50 prize for the winner so bring you best desert and let the judges determine who the lucky winner is.  Of course we will eat it once the judging is completed.

November 8 will be the Annual Memorial Mass at 10 AM and we will reserve seat in the front of the church for the knights and their families.  Come join us and we honor those of our membership who have departed.

November 14th will be the state Annual Soccer Challenge and we will be taking our district winners down to Fayetteville to participate.

November 15th will be a 1st & 2nd Degree beginning at 5:30 PM in the Parish Center.  Come out and support our new Brothers and they join our team.

The Big October Race was cold and windy but the volunteers showed up just the same and did an excellent job of driving the buses and other vehicles at the track.  I would like to send a big “THANK YOU” to all those who participated in this event.  As we look forward to the May race I hope more will join us in this money making event. Our opportunities for fund raising are even more limited now so we need to take advantage of every opportunity.

Our Annual KofC Golf Tournament was held on Saturday October 24, 2009 at the Kings Mountain Country Club and proved to be another great Gary Elkin event.  The Boston Butts we exceptionally good this year, hope you got yours, the competition on the course was strong as usual, and everyone had a really great time.

And last but certainly not lease our monthly socials.  Two items here.  One I am looking for entertainers for our monthly socials. If you have any ideas let me know, as we want to make them more than just a meal.  Two, as our parish grows so does the demand on the facilities.  Our schedule for the January social has moved Saturday January 23, 2010 and Valentine Day will be Saturday, February 13, 2010 and St. Patrick Day is March 20th, 2010.   This should give everyone enough notice to plan accordingly.

Our December social will be our annual Christmas Party with a special visit from Santa and friends and promises to be an exciting time. Rumor has it that Greg will bring his train again this year and there will be a special someone to lead the sing along and everyone is expected to join in.

January’s social will be the BIG Chile Cook off with a cash prize for the winner and we get to eat the Chile.  Enter your best as I hear the competition will be HOT.

I want to thank everyone for all they are doing for our council.

Putting our Degrees in action

I am so very pleased with the way our councils are growing, not alone in membership but also in brotherhood for one another and most of all for our fellow men and women. We just completed or are still in the process of collecting funds for LAMB, helping those especially those who are handicapped. Council 11946 even did LAMB at the Cleveland County Fair again while 6700 for the first time solicited at the Cotton Ginning Days in Dallas, NC. Council 6700 was also able participate in Hope 4 Gaston for the second year in a row. Here they sent “man power” to assist in fixing up homes for those in the community who could not do so themselves. We held soccer play offs within our district and had an awesome turn out. These winners, we will be taking to Fayetteville, NC for the State Championships on Nov. 14th.  To all four councils within district 14 we are all so proud of you. You really are making such a difference not only in your community, but also in your Church. Please remember that we are all ambassadors not only of the Knights of Columbus but also our Catholic Church.  A man reminded me just recently that word of mouth is either the best advertising or the worst possible nightmare. Lets all strive for the former not the latter.

Update on “The Pride In Our Priests Dinner”

After speaking with Abbott Placid Solari it appears that we will be holding the dinner at the Abbey sometime during the month of January, 2010. I will notify you all when the final date is settled on.

State Soccer Finals

Gastonia Council will be sending their kickers on to Fayetteville, NC on Nov.  14th.

Next Eucharistic Congress in Charlotte Sept. 10th & 11th, 2010

Please free your schedule today for these dates.

Game night

This months’ objective; Try to get everybody together and play a board game once a week.  Put away the TV games and pull out monopoly, sorry, scattagories etc. something where the whole family can play together. This is a great time to get everybody to share there experiences of the week with one another.  It’s a great way to keep the lines of communication open with each other. And the kids will think it great that mom and dad can be fun to be with to.

Good ideas to do this month as a family

Go to wed night mass and adoration together this shows a great example to your kids that church is more than just Sunday morning.

Go to the Knights social together and mom gets a night off of cooking and its good on dads budget.

Take a Sunday drive to the mountains and catch the end of the leaf changing, make a picnic out of it and let the kids go apple picking. Or play hide and seek with your wife in the orchard.

We are still looking for more trucks and trailers for the Mcandenville Christmas lights this event is still growing
Next pancake breakfast is in January

Any comments questions or concerns I’m only a phone call away 704-293-4496

From the Community Director:

During the month of October we had an immense amount of activities we were able to participate in as Knights of Columbus.  One of those activities in particular was the Hope for Gaston.  I would like to thank Deacon Jack along with all of the Knights of Columbus that came out to help with this very important project.  It is projects such as this that we realize the importance of working with one another.  As our community grows, it is key that we realize there will be many more opportunities available to serve the community in which we live.  Also, it is wonderful to see our community growing in a diverse direction.  Thus, one of the next things we may be able to focus on as a council is working on an activity that will bring both the Anglo and Hispanic community together.  I will be looking forward to your suggestions on how we can accomplish this.  Hope all of you have had a great month; and again, I thank all of the Knights of Columbus for what they do for our community.
