Grand Knight Report

Greetings, we have completed our first LAMB weekend and the rainy weather was a real issue this year. We are now working on the schedule for our second weekend which will be November 6 – 8, 2009.  We are now scheduled to have a table at the Gaston County Cotton Ginning Days which will be held on October 9 –11, 2009 at Biggerstaff Park in Dallas off Rt.279.  If you would like to work this event let me know.  I want to thank all those who participated in September and hope you will help us in November.  Charity being the first principle of our order I would hope everyone would share in our commitment.  After all it is “OUR” commitment.

Our September social was a big success.  We had 86 people attend and we had some really great entertainment provided by humorist Bill Melton.  We will not have a social in October due to race weekend but in November I will have more entertainment plus we are going to have a ‘Best Dessert” contest with a $50 prize for the winner so bring you best dessert and let the judges determine who the lucky winner is.  Of course we will eat it once the judging is completed.

September 20th saw our 2nd Annual Soccer Challenge and we had 27 kickers with 15 Knights and their families present.  A really great event and thanks for coming out and supporting this youth activity.

In October we look forward to Cotton Ginning Days, the Big Race and our Annual K of C Golf Tournament.  These events will certainly require your help to be successful.  October 15 – 17 is race weekend and we are always looking for drivers to help us raise money.  If you have not participated before you should try it, it is a great time. Give Charlie Dow and myself a call to sign up for the race.

Immediately following the race weekend is October 24 and our Annual Boston Butt Sale and KofC Golf Tournament will be held again this year at the Kings Mountain Country Club. Order your Boston Butts today just $25 and they will feed 6 to 8 people.  We are looking for teams and sponsors.  If you have a team and need an application contact Gary Elkin or me and we will get you signed up. If you would like to be a sponsor or know someone who would be a sponsor please let us know as soon as possible.

And last but certainly not least our monthly socials.  Two items here.  One, I am looking for entertainers for our monthly socials. If you have any ideas let me know, as we want to make them more than just a meal.  Two, as our parish grows so does the demand on the facilities.  Our schedule for the January social has moved Saturday to January 23, 2010 and Valentine Day will be Saturday, February 13, 2010 and St. Patrick Day is March 20th, 2010.   This should give everyone enough notice to plan accordingly.

I want to thank everyone for all they are doing for our council.

Degrees

The Membership Blitz campaign is in full swing once again. So far 6700 in Gastonia,  11946 in Shelby, and 11266 in Forest City all have new men joining with some transfers.

Forest City will be holding a First Degree on Sunday October 4th at 5:30pm.

Belmont 11076 is working on theirs. Gaining new members is the way we grow. Please think about asking your Catholic friends to join and become part of our Brotherhood.

Attention all 2nd Degree Brothers.  The next Third Degree will be held in

Kannapolis on October 10th. This will then be followed by another in Raleigh at council 5801, on Oct. 17th.  It is vital that you contact either your Grand Knight or Deputy Grand Knight as soon as possible to sign up for either of these degrees.

Cleveland County Fair Oct. 1st – 10th

Any Knight who would like to help the Shelby council at their booth at the Cleveland County Fair Please call GK David Judge at 704-538-1462. They need additional help.

I am pleased to announce that I recently held an installation of officers for the Shelby Council 11946 and our picture made the Catholic News & Herald.

Update on “The Pride In Our Priests Dinner”

It looks like we will be inviting 23 Priests, included are those from the Abbey.

Eight Priests from the Gastonia Vicariate and thirteen Monks from the Abbey leaving two  spots for Bishop Jugis or Curlin and his aid. We anticipate holding the dinner at Belmont Abbey with seating for one hundred twenty. Each of the eight Vicariate Priests will be allowed approximately ten tickets. Since this is a Knights function, tickets will go to Knights first.
