History

St. Michael School was founded by St. Michael Parish under the direction of Fr. Gregory Eichenlaub, O.S.B. It was located in a parishioner’s house and staffed by the Sisters of Mercy. In 1952, the the school moved to its current location as the first building on our campus. The school is an integral part of the St. Michael Parish Community, but serves students from Shelby, Belmont. Lincolnton, River Hills, Clover, South Carolina and other areas as well. A new addition in 2002 enhanced our educational program with a new Media Center, art room and new class rooms for the Middle School and new Science facilities for the school.

St. Michael’s Catholic School is fully accredited by the Diocese of Charlotte and the N. C. Department of Public Instruction. St. Michael’s School has also been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools since 1977.

All students receive instruction in Religious Education, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, English/Language Arts, and Physical Education. Expanded Programs with Specialist Instructors in Computer, Art, Music, Spanish, Learning Support for students with identified needs, Instrumental music and Library.
